The Resort

With a beautiful view of the Carmel Mountains and towards the Mediterranean Sea, Ein Hawd’s future tourist resort will be located on the southern slopes of the village outskirts.

Since the 1990s, the people of Ein Hawd have dreamed of making their village a tourist centre. In the past, almost every familly has built a ‘zimmer’ for tourists to stay in, but lacking effective marketing, plus amenities like electricity and water, their initiative has yet to be rewarded.

Now, FAST is helping the villagers to finally make their dream a reality, by making the Ein Hawd resort a central part of the new masterplan. In this version, each family will first get 250m2 of land to develop a garden. The garden produce can be sold in the market, and the profits can be used to construct tourist accommodation: up to 50% of the plot can be used for this; the rest will remain a garden. There will also be shared areas, including a lobby, large gardens, and a meeting hall.

FAST, together with the inhabitants, decided to embrace the old dream and give it space in the new masterplan. In addition, we have invited two well known Dutch architecture offices to join us in Ein Hawd and create ‘facts on the ground’ make the first resort installation:

In the alternative masterplan, a resort is proposed at Ein Hawd’s most beautiful spot. One Architecture and Concern have made a space where visitors can contemplate the (social, political, cultural) landscape of Ein Hawd. At the site, a proposal for an environmentally sensitive cabin is presented.
